Royal Bank of Scotland
Royal Bank of Scotland Award for Most Outstanding Business
Royal Bank of Scotland has paved the way in banking since it was established. From the world’s first overdraft, and the first house purchase loan by a UK bank, to the first fully-fledged internet banking service, the bank has a history of making life easier for its customers. The bank is committed to serving communities and putting the interests of customers first, being alongside its customers every day for all the things that matter.
Royal Bank of Scotland has over 1.7 million customers in Scotland today, with over 100,000 business customers. They’ve been supporting these businesses, helping families and contributing to local communities for almost 300 years. And around 10,000 Royal Bank of Scotland employees live and work in Scotland - it’s where they call home.
The bank’s ambition is to be the biggest supporter of UK Business Enterprise by offering a wide range of tailored services for those who want to start or scale their business. As a purpose-led organisation they have tailored their targeted support to ensure those who have traditionally faced the highest barriers to entry can access the right support to start and scale their businesses. The bank’s Enterprise Programmes will support 35,000 businesses and target 75% of support to UK regions outside of London and the South East, with 60% of support going to women and 20% to minority ethnic businesses.
To retain its close connections with Scottish communities, the bank helps its employees make a difference through programmes such as MoneySense and STV Children’s Appeal.
